Two comparable follower snapshots can show which usernames appeared or disappeared between observations. A single export cannot reconstruct that history.
Import your newer ZIP into the web analyzer, then choose Add earlier ZIP in Relationships. The tool compares two exports from the same account in this browser session and previews five accounts per difference. Reports for iOS also provides saved import history; access depends on the app’s subscription and available data.
Establish a baseline
Export the relationship data for one Instagram account. Keep all follower parts, the following file, and the original archive. Record when you requested and downloaded the export.
The download date is not the exact time of every relationship event. Treat it as context for a snapshot, not as a transaction log.
Keep the next export comparable
Use the same account, information categories, and broad date range. Avoid comparing a partial file with a full list. If a file is missing, fix the input before interpreting differences.
Keep the original ZIP filenames so export dates can be identified. The web comparison rejects a different account, an unknown identity/date, or a baseline that is not earlier than the current export. Files are not saved between sessions.
Read the differences precisely
For a fictional example, suppose the first snapshot contains Alex, Bela, and Cleo. The second contains Alex, Cleo, and Dani.
- Bela is absent from the later list.
- Dani is new to the observed list.
- Alex and Cleo appear in both.
Those statements describe the data. “Bela unfollowed at 9:00” or “Dani became interested in your posts” adds information that the comparison does not contain.
Check alternative explanations
A changed username can look like one removed account and one added account when the data does not provide a stable identifier. Account availability and export completeness can also affect the result.
An unusual change across many accounts is a reason to inspect your source files, not to assume a sudden social event.
Build a useful habit
Choose a comparison cadence that serves your purpose rather than repeatedly checking small changes. Store reports only on devices you control, and avoid sharing private account lists without a reason.
Start with a sample relationship report if you want to understand the available data before exporting your own.
Make your data readable.
